Industrial Hygiene Technician
Job Description
HP Environmental, Inc. (HPE) is seeking an Industrial Hygiene Technician (IHT) to add to its industrial hygiene (IH) consulting arm of the company. HPE is located in Herndon, VA and provides analytical laboratory and consulting services across the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region, as well as nationally as needed.
Under the direction of senior management and other leadership, the IHT will be primarily responsible for assisting with and conducting field investigations for asbestos, lead-based paint, indoor air quality, water/microbial damage, etc. as well monitoring/oversight/testing during remediation activities.
Basic Functions & Responsibilities
- Conduct tasks related to asbestos/lead inspections, indoor air quality (IAQ)/mold assessments, and/or other assignments as needed
- Project oversight and testing related to asbestos/lead/mold remediation work
- Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) sample analysis
- Prepare draft reports for review by senior management
- Maintain consistent communication of project progress with senior management from start to finish of the project
Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in industrial hygiene, environmental science, or related field
- 1-2 years’ field experience preferred
- Able to pass background security clearance checks for access badging for federal, state, and local government or secure buildings.
- Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
- Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-moving environment
- Excellent time management skills, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize work
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Physical ability to carry equipment up to 35 pounds, climb ladders, get in and out of basements and attic spaces, etc.
- Periodic out-of-area travel for projects including some stays up to a week
- Willingness for business related regional travel
- Willingness to work off-hours (nights/weekends) as required
- Ability to wear a respirator
- Not required (will train) but preferred: Certification/licensed as asbestos inspector, lead inspector/risk assessor, mold assessor certification, NIOSH 582 certification, familiar with XRF analyzer, or IH experience

Geologist
Job Description
HP Environmental, Inc. (HPE), located in Herndon, Virginia, is seeking an entry-level to experienced geologist/environmental scientist to join their Site Assessment, Monitoring & Compliance Division. HPE performs comprehensive environmental assessments and consultation in the areas of environmental chemistry, toxicology, geology, industrial hygiene, indoor air quality (IAQ). HPE staff conducts building assessments with unparalleled professional credentials including doctoral level scientists, professional geologists, and board-certified industrial hygienists (CIH). HPE provides services to property managers, owners, developers, real estate investment trusts, insurance companies, financial institutions, and contractors for commercial, medical, manufacturing, military facilities, and to local, state and federal government.
The Site Assessment, Monitoring & Compliance Division provides environmental due diligence services starting with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and proceeding through soil and groundwater remediation work on a site-by-site basis. A list of services provided by the Site Assessment division includes the following:
- ASTM Compliant Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessments
- Regulatory Compliance Audits
- Voluntary Cleanup Programs
- UST and AST Compliance Assessments
- UST and AST installations and removals
- Soil and Groundwater Investigations and Remediation
- Petroleum-impacted soil delineation during site development
- Environmental Permitting Support
- Litigation Support
At a minimum, the successful candidate should have:
- A B.S. degree in geology, environmental science, or similar discipline
- 0-2 years of experience performing related services
- Have the ability to work as an individual or part of a group
- Experience with local and federal environmental regulations a plus
- Experience facilitating projects and interacting with clients and regulators
- Ability to perform environmental sample collection and field work
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and have excellent verbal and written communication skills
AutoCAD and groundwater modelling experience is a plus. Field work will be required in this position and may be as much as 50% of the workload. A valid driver’s license and personal vehicle are required to serve site work in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.
