Bill Kilpatrick, PhD, PE, LEED AP ID+C

Director of Building Science

Bill Kilpatrick serves as HPE’s Director of Building Science services. His work experience covers a wide range of disciplines over many years, including facilities engineering, construction project management, environmental engineering and general civil engineering. Bill has considerable experience in materials investigation and troubleshooting and has performed emergency responses to numerous hurricane and earthquake events.

Bill is a European Engineer in the European Union, a Chartered Engineer in the UK, a Registered Professional Engineer, a LEED Accredited Professional in Interior Design and Construction (LEED AP ID+C) and a Licensed Mold Inspector and Trainer. He has held full-time academic appointments in the Departments of Civil Engineering at the University of Maryland, Auburn University and the University of Aberdeen and as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering at George Mason University.

Bill is deeply committed to keeping abreast of current knowledge and trends, the development and maintenance of key clients and the training and mentoring of professional and technical staff. He is especially committed to teamwork, high quality service and client satisfaction.  More recently, he has expanded his expertise in the comprehensive field of Building Sciences by combining his LEED expertise and diverse experience with the quest for innovation and sustainability in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of Green buildings. 

Bill is a Past President and Board of Director’s Member of the Northern Virginia Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). He is the recipient of several SAME awards, including Post Member of the Year, Post Engineering and Post Service awards, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Vice President’s medal, the National Service medal and the National STEM Champion medal. As a personal pursuit, Bill continues to devote time and energy to support outreach to K-12 and college level students in STEM activities and
initiatives.
